If the Knicks can get Prigioni for the veteran’s minimum, this offseason is just getting better and better. Even though he would be the third point guard, if we learned anything last playoffs (and the year before), you can never have enough guys that can run a team. Prigioni is a savvy pass first guard that would be a great fit in my opinion. Hopefully Grunwald can get it done to add to his already very impressive resume.

Last night was a busy night for the Knicks, bringing back Novak and J.R., while acquiring Marcus Camby via sign-and-trade. While some may complain about losing Harrellson and some second rounders, the Knicks are in win now mode these next 3 years, evident by the length of almost every contract on their books.

With the bench looking in tact, I would expect them to seek one more guard for depth, with around $2 million to spend using Dan Gadzuric’s non-guaranteed contract. Either way, if the Knicks second unit is Kidd, J.R., Novak, Camby and either Melo or STAT to run with them, I am very impressed. Cheers, Glen.

Definitely glad to have Steve back, but thie framework of this deal cannot be good for convincing J.R. Smith to take a one year, $2.8M deal. Either way, Novak was a key cog to the Knicks’ regular season success, and will be a nice piece to what is shaping up to be a pretty impressive second unit.

As per Al Iannazzone via Twitter/Sulia:

The Knicks complete summer league roster that will open up July 14 in Las Vegas is: Jeff Brooks, Chris Copeland, Toney Douglas, Mustapha Farrakhan, Kyle Goldcamp, Josh Harrellson, Jerome Jordan, Ahmad Nivins, Artsiom Parakhouski, Jeremiah Rivers, Walker Russell, Jr., Chris Smith, Mychel Thompson, Terrance Withers, Wesley Witherspoon. Douglas and Jordan – and maybe Harrellson – could be gone before then if the Knicks can pull off a sign-and-trade for a free agent.

In my own opinion, this is a very lackluster roster with no one outside of the current players (T-Doug, Big Jorts & Jordan) who could even challenge to catch on with the team. It will be interesting to see what other additions will be made once some of the aforementioned current Knicks get traded away in a potential sign & trade deal. It seems like Douglas and Jordan are almost destined to be on a different team before the season begins.

Here is the link to the complete Las Vegas Summer League schedule: http://www.nba.com/news/2012-summer-league-schedule/index.html

With the Ray Allen signing news coming in late last night, The Heat hurt their chances of landing Marcus Camby. He has reportedly made it clear that he has no interest in signing for the veteran’s minimum and now the Heat don’t have their Mid-Level Exception to offer with it going towards Ray Allen. The only way they can now land the big man is to work out a sign and trade with the Rockets.

Camby was scheduled to meet with the Heat today and was in Miami over night but has now decided to skip the planned meeting. Camby’s next stop will be with the Knicks on Sunday, he may even visit with the Nets afterwards. The Nets and GM Billy King are now beginning to put the full court press on their pursuit of Camby and may be a dark horse in the race for his services.

Ken Berger ‏@KBergCBS

Marcus Camby has postponed his visit with the Heat and will meet with the Knicks tomorrow, league source tells @CBSSports.

Apparently the Rockets value the trading chips that the Knicks are willing to offer over what the Heat have out on the table. The Knicks right now are widely considered by many to be the front runners, but I’m still taking that with a grain of salt as we have been considered the leaders for Nash only to see the rug pulled out from under us that very same day.

While the Knicks are currently labeled as the favorites, you can’t count out the Heat in a possible sign and trade deal or even possibly convincing him to take less money. Bottom line is that New York can offer non-guaranteed deals in return but the Heat cannot. I still want Camby back but wouldn’t be too distraught if he went elsewhere and we pursued another need.

Knicks fan favorite Marcus Camby seems to have been linked to rejoin the Knicks for a while now and this off season it seems like there may be some actual traction to the rumors. Camby is still an effective big man who cleans the glass and protects the lane. He would fit in very nicely to backup starter, Tyson Chandler providing our 2nd unit with a viable paint protector.

Camby will be visiting the Heat on Saturday and plans on following that up with a Knicks visit. He is said to have no interest in the veteran’s minimum and is only seeking the $3 million mid level exception.

Jonathan Feigen ‏@Jonathan_Feigen

Rockets center Marcus Camby to meet with Heat on Saturday, source said. Knicks next.

I can never hate on a chance to reunite with the Cambyman, I just wouldn’t be opposed to seeing Grunwald placing a higher priority on a wing shooter a la Randy Foye or Courtney Lee. Foye has already expressed interest in joining the Knicks and the feeling seems to be mutual, but his situation probably won’t start to sort out until Ray Allen determines where he wants to play next year. Lee would be a great fit, but may garner more interest/money from teams like the Pacers or T-Wolves

This would be a huge bonus for the Knicks, allowing them to address either a back-up big man or shooting guard using the mid-level exception. Camby or O.J. Mayo? That’d be ideal, Camby being the more realistic option.

Source confirms Houston has reached an agreement on an offer sheet for NY Knicks restricted free agent point guard Jeremy Lin.

The rumor is 4 years $30 million. That wouldn’t be the worst contract in the world figuring it is 5-5-10-10, with the fourth year being the only real contract still on the books. Melo, Tyson, STAT and now Kidd are expected to expire in the third season. I would expect New York to match but stranger things have happened these first five days of free agency. We shall see…

In a wild turn of events, Jason Kidd was reportedly on the verge of signing a 3 year deal with the Dallas Mavericks and has now, out of nowhere, decided to sign with the Knicks.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine

In another unforeseen twist of this wild offseason, sources say Jason Kidd has decided to leave Mavs and join Knicks on a multiyear deal

It has been a crazy last couple of days with the Knicks considered to be front runners for Steve Nash only to see the Lakers swoop in on a sign and trade. Everybody figured the Knicks were going to land former PG Raymond Felton after Nash was off the board and Kidd was considered to be staying with the Mavs too.

Personally, I would have preferred to go after Felton as he gives us more athleticism and better defense. The Knicks are clearly viewing Kidd as a mentor to Lin who you have to believe the Knicks will match just about any offer he receives as an unrestricted free agent at this point.

This also provides the team with more flexibility with the Lin situation. They don’t have to be so desperate to bring back Lin if they don’t like the terms of an offer sheet deal. They can move forward with Kidd and still pursue adding a player like Felton.

The Knicks may have gotten off to a quiet start to free agency, but now things are starting to heat up and get rather crazy. Let’s see what else Grunwald and the front office have in store for us this summer
