Today Landry Fields celebrates his 23rd birthday.
Just a year ago, Landry surprised the world when he was selected 39th overall in the 2010 NBA Draft. I was one of many to wonder “Who?”. A year later the unheralded second round pick has gone on to win two Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month awards, line up as a starter in the Rookie-Sophomore Challenge, start all but one regular season game, and be named to the NBA’s All-Rookie First Team.
This offseason marks an important one for Fields. With the Knicks taking Iman Shumpert with the 17th pick, and an eye on both guard positions, look for Landry to come into season number 2 with an improved handle and more consistent jump-shot.
That stuff can be worked out the other days of this (possibly very long) offseason. For tonight, enjoy and celebrate, Landry. You only turn 23 once. Happy birthday from KnickScoop.com. If you haven’t had the chance to wish him a great day yourself, be sure to give Landry a shout-out on Twitter at http://Twitter.com/LandryFields.
